The Governmental Action Plan to Counter Elder Abuse contains 39 measures aimed at developing knowledge about elder abuse, increasing information about services and recourses available to abused seniors, improving training and better preparing caregivers, strengthening and extending initiatives to better counter elder abuse, and leveraging coordination to better prevent, detect and intervene. Four structured initiatives, under the responsibility of the Secrétariat aux aînés, have also been implemented to fight elder abuse and support partner initiatives. They are:
The Action Plan proposes various initiatives to help fight elder abuse, all of which are anchored in two inherent realities: that elder abuse is a poorly understood and complex problem, and that the continuum of services (prevention, detection and intervention) needs to be strengthened.
