An International Driving Permit is essentially a translation of your driver’s licence into a dozen languages. It does not replace your «real» driver’s licence; it is in addition to it. It’s a good idea to get an International Driving Permit if you plan to travel and drive in a foreign country. CAA-Québec is the only official International Driving Permit issuer for Québec.
Clientele Holders of a valid driver’s licence (including a probationary licence) issued by a province of Canada. Restrictions Holders of a temporary licence (or learner’s licence) that has been revoked cannot get an International Driving Permit. Conditions You must carry a valid Canadian driver’s licence in addition to your International Driving Permit.
