An occupation competency certificate is issued to a new worker who wishes to practise a support activity on construction sites, either as a labourer or general helper.

Note In case of a labour shortage, the Regulation respecting the issuance of competency certificates provides that a worker can obtain a temporary occupation competency certificate provided that he or she has passed the course "Santé et sécurité générale sur les chantiers de construction". Specific conditions apply in this case, and the worker must submit a request jointly with an employer registered with the Commission de la construction du Québec that guarantees him or her 150 hours of work over a maximum period of 3 months.
