A mandatory vocational qualification process generally includes three steps:
1. RegistrationThe worker must register in a mandatory vocational qualification program relating to the trade that he or she wants to exercise. The occupational qualification certificates issued by Emploi-Québec for regulated trades cover the following fields in particular:

Apprenticeship card During the workplace apprenticeship program, workers must carry a valid apprenticeship card at all times. The card, which is issued by Emploi-Québec once a worker has enrolled, allows apprentices to carry out regulated tasks under the supervision of an experienced worker (or journeyperson).
2. Apprenticeship programAn occupational qualification certificate is issued to workers after successful completion of an apprenticeship program related to the regulated trade. In accordance with the apprenticeship program, the worker must:
3. Qualification examinationOnce the apprenticeship program is over, the worker must succeed the examination prepared and administered by Emploi-Québec to obtain his occupational qualification certificate. In case of failure the examination can be retaken.
ClienteleAny person at least 16 old of age who wishes to occupy a regulated trade.
ExceptionThe Boutefeu qualification Program is for 18 years of age or older.
