Registering Yourself or a Child for the Public Prescription Drug Insurance Plan

To register oneself or a child for the public prescription drug insurance plan, proceed in one of the following ways and provide the required information:

  • Call the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec, or or
  • Go to a Régie office.  

Adults aged 18 to 64 who are in one of the following situations may also use the Registration and Deregistration - Drug insurance online service (clicSÉQUR - Citoyens authentification required):

  • Single
  • Living with a spouse (without children)
  • Living with a spouse and one or more biological or adoptive children of the couple
  • The head of a single-parent family (for example, on of the parents is dead or only one parents is named on the birth certificate. 


The following persons are automatically registred for the public prescription drug insurance plan by the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec

  • Holders of a claim slip and their children under 18 years of age
  • Persons who are turning 65
  • Children born in Québec whose birth has been declared to the Directeur de l'état civil and whose parents are covered by the public plan
  • Young adults when they turn 18 if they were already registered as a child with the public plan and their parents did not extend their coverage as a full-time student
