You must give your employer written notice of parental leave of not less than three weeks, and provide the dates for the beginning and end of the leave. Notice may be shorter if your presence with the newborn or newly adopted child is necessary due to the child’s state of health, or if the mother needs you because of her state of health. To extend your leave due to the child’s state of health, you must provide the employer with a written notice before the expiry date of the leave. The notice must be accompanied by a medical certificate attesting that the child’s state of health requires that the leave be extended and stating the duration of the extension. You may return to work before the date initially scheduled for the return. In that case, you must give your employer written notice of not less than three weeks providing the new date of return. In addition, if the employer consents, you may return to work on a part-time basis or intermittently during the parental leave.
