Marriage and Civil Union

Marrying or Forming a Civil Union

Persons of age 18 or over.
Persons of age 16 or 17 may also marry if they obtain the authorization of the court, but they may not enter a civil union. They can request the authorization of the court on their own, but the tutor or the person who has parental authority must give his or her opinion.
Requirements Concerning the Couple
Persons who wish to marry or form a civil union must meet the following requirements:
  • be able to give their free and informed consent 
  • not be in a marriage or civil union with another person
  • not be closely related (father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter)
