To renew your driver's licence (plasticized document), go to a Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec service outlet. Be sure to bring:
- the duly completed notice of renewal for your health insurance card which you received from the Régie de l'assurance automobile du Québec, if any
- any required documents
A clerk will take your photo and record your signature. The SAAQ will send any necessary information to the Régie, which will send you your new health insurance card.

The following rates are in effect from January 1 to December 31, 2019
The rates in effect are as follows:
- $13.40 to renew your driver's licence (and your health insurance card, if necessary), including photo and plasticization fees
- annual driver's licence fees (which can vary depending on the class(es) shown on your licence and the number of demerit points on your driving record)
Any licence holder who fails to renew his or her driver's licence by the deadline is liable to a fine.
Payment Methods
You can make the payment:
- in cash
- by credit card
- by cheque made out to the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec
The payment deadline is shown on your notice of renewal.
The SAAQ will send your new driver's licence within 10 days of receiving your application.
Your new driver's licence will be valid for 8 years.
You must provide 2 originals pieces of identification from among the following, 1 of which must have a photo:
- your driver's licence
- your health insurance card
- a birth certificate or copy of an act of birth
- a passport
- a Canadian citizenship certificate
- a change of name or change of sex certificate
- a document from Canadian or Québec immigration authorities
