Obtaining a Hearing Device

To obtain a hearing device under the Hearing Devices Program, the following steps are required:

  1. Obtain a medical certificate from an ear, nose and throat specialist attesting to the person’s permanent hearing loss;
  2. Obtain an audiogram (evaluation of the degree of hearing loss) and an attestation that the person needs a hearing device from an ear, nose and throat specialist or an audiologist; and      
  3. Consult a hearing-aid specialist or an assistive listening devices facility, depending on the type of aid needed, and provide the documents obtained previously.  
Note
To find a hearing-aid specialist or an assistive listening devices facility, it is recommended to use the Hearing-aids specialists and Recognized facilities specialized in assistive listening devices online service. The person’s audiologist can also provide information.
