A woman who cannot have an appointment in an establishment within a two week period, in Montréal or the adjoining regions, can contact the Centre de coordination des interruptions volontaires de grossesse de premier trimestre of the Centre de santé et de services sociaux Jeanne-Mance in Montréal to arrange an appointment earlier in another establishment.
Elective abortion is free in Canada upon presentation of the health insurance card no matter where it is performed.
Outside of CanadaOutside of Canada, no matter where it is performed, elective abortion is reimbursed based on the fees in Québec.
The pregnancy length limit for an elective abortion depends on each establishment. Most establishment perform elective abortions until the 12th week of pregnancy. Some establishments, health centers for women and private clinics perform elective abortions later during the pregnancy. Service corridors are established with the Montréal, Québec and Estrie regions in the case of an elective abortion of second trimester.
Application for elective abortion after the 23rd week of pregnancy must be addressed to the Centre intégré universitaire de santé et de services sociaux of the Centre-Est-de-l'Île-de-Montréal.
