Recourses before the Régie du logement

Preparing for a Hearing before the Régie du logement

To prepare for a hearing, the parties must:

  • Re-read the application carefully to make sure they fully understand the purpose and grounds of the recourse
  • Gather all the documents they need to prove or refute the elements in dispute
  • Identify the witnesses they will need at the hearing and, if applicable, have them summoned by a bailiff

Only a person who has personal knowledge of the facts may testify. Depending on the nature of the application, the witness could be an appraiser, expert or inspector.

To ensure the presence of a witness, the concerned party can have a bailiff serve the person, at least three days before the date of the hearing, with an order to appear issued by a commissioner of the Régie du logement.
