In addition, if the application concerns a child under the age of 18, the other parent or the tutor of the child must be notified that such an application will be filed with the Directeur de l'état civil. The child must also be notified if he or she is at least 14 years of age.

Note Processing costs for a change of name are non-refundable if the application is rejected.
Processing an application for a change of name generally takes 90 business days if all the necessary documents meeting the requirements have been provided.
