Road Vehicle Adaptation Program for People with Disabilities

Applying for Financial Assistance under the Road Vehicle Adaptation Program for People with Disabilities

To apply for financial assistance under the Road Vehicle Adaptation Program for People with Disabilities:

  1. Call the Service de la gestion des fournisseurs et des dossiers at the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec to request a copy of the form Application for Assistance Toward Vehicle Adaptation.
  2. Fill out the form and attach:
    1. a recent medical report attesting to your mobility impairment
    2. a functional assessment report from an occupational therapist
    3. 2 different bids from suppliers certified by the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association of Canada (NMEDA Canada). A list of suppliers is provided on their website.
  3. Send to the Service de la gestion des fournisseurs et des dossiers at the SAAQ.

If you have a driver's licence, you must also send a copy of the occupational therapist's functional assessment report to the Service de l'évaluation médicale et du suivi du comportement at the SAAQ, since the addition of equipment may require the addition or withdrawal of classes or conditions on your driver's licence.

Communication of the decision
After studying the recommendations of the occupational therapist, the SAAQ will confirm in writing the amount of assistance you will be granted. Attached to the letter will be a list of authorized equipment. You can then have the vehicle modified by the supplier of your choice among those certified by NMEDA Canada.

Mechanical check
If the adaptation involves the vehicle’s braking, acceleration, steering or suspension systems, a mechanical check will be required after the work is completed. The need to have this done will be indicated on the list of authorized equipment sent by the SAAQ.
