Extending Parental Coverage for a Child under the Public Prescription Drug Insurance Plan

Clientele

All children turning 18, who are covered by the public prescription drug insurance plan through their parents.

Requirements

In order to be eligible for the extension of parental coverage, children must:

  • Reside in Québec;
  • Be insured under the Québec Health Insurance Plan;
  • Not be eligible for coverage under a private plan;
  • Be enrolled full time in an educational institution
  • Be single (see definitions)
  • Live with their parents

To extend parental coverage for a child (see definitions) under the public prescription drug insurance plan, one of the parents must call the Régie de l'assurance maladie or go to one of the Régie's offices.
