Applying for a Pension for a Disabled Person’s Child

You are eligible to apply if:
  • you are the recipient of a disability pension and you have a biological or adopted child under age 18 in your care, or
  • you are the recipient of a disability pension and you serve as mother or father to a minor child who had been living with you for at least 1 year at the time you were deemed to be disabled
Restrictions
A pension for a disabled person’s child will not be paid:
  • if the child is placed in foster care in the disabled person’s home and that person is receiving amounts for care of the child
  • if the disabled person is already entitled to a pension for a disabled person’s child or an orphan’s pension under the Québec Pension Plan or the Canada Pension Plan
  • if the disabled person receives an additional amount for disability

To apply for a pension for a disabled person’s child, you must:

  1. fill out the section of the Application for Disability Benefits Under the Québec Pension Plan that pertains to a pension for a disabled person’s child à
  2. enclose one of the required documents (see below) if the child was born outside of Québec
  3. mail everything to Retraite Québec
