Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec
Have you undergone a permanent ostomy? You might be entitled under the Ostomy Appliances Program to reimbursement of part of the purchase or replacement price of products that you need.
The Ostomy Appliances Program is for persons who have had a permanent ostomy (see Definitions). It is to reimburse part of the purchase or replacement cost of the necessary devices (pouches and other products).
Since under the Program a lump sum is automatically paid each year, beneficiaries must notify the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec of any modification or closing of an ostomy.
Clientele Any person who has undergone a permanent ostomy (see Definitions) and is covered under the Québec Health Insurance Plan.
Restriction A person accommodated in a subsidized institution is not eligible for the program. The institution is required to supply the pouches and other ostomy-related devices free of charge.
For each permanent ostomy a person has undergone (see Definitions), he or she receives an amount of $700 to cover part of the cost of the necessary appliances. Subsequently, on the anniversary date of the surgery each year, the person receives a lump sum of $700 per ostomy to cover replacement costs. No application is required. Recipients of last-resort financial assistance Recipients of last-resort financial assistance are reimbursed for expenses that exceed the $700 lump sum. In that case, the person must present detailed invoices of the products purchased. Note The Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec sends the reimbursement to the address that it has on record. It is important to notify the Régie of any change of address.
The Appliances for Permanent Ostomates Program began in April, 1981.
