Notifying the Ministère du Travail, de l'Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale of the Death of a Social Assistance Program Beneficiary

If the beneficiary lived in a family (see Definitions), benefits continue to be paid for 3 months after his or her death.

If the beneficiary lived alone, no benefits are paid for the months after his or her death. If benefits were being paid by cheque and one has been received for the month after the death, the liquidator of the succession must return it to the local employment centre (CLE) or Services Québec office that provided the beneficiary with social solidarity services.

To find a CLE or a Services Québec office, use the online locator service.

To notify the Ministère du Travail, de l’Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale of the death of a beneficiary of the Social Assistance Program, contact the Centre de communication avec la clientèle at the Ministère.

This procedure must be carried out, even though the Directeur de l’état civil automatically notifies the Ministère when a death has occurred in Québec.
