Notifying Retraite Québec of the Death of a Beneficiary of a Disability Benefit
Any member of the family of the deceased, or anyone concerned.
To notify Retraite Québec of the death of a beneficiary of a disability benefit, one need not take any steps if the death occurred in Québec. In such a case, the death is reported to the Directeur de l’état civil, who notifies Retraite Québec and transmits the necessary information.
If the death occurred outside Québec, Retraite Québec must be notified and provided with a death certificate or a copy of the act of death.
Pension paid by cheque
Any cheque sent to the deceased beneficiary must be returned to Retraite Québec, who will subsequently issue a new cheque made out to the order of the succession.
Pension paid by direct deposit
If, at the time of death, the benefit was already deposited in the deceased beneficiary’s account, the financial institution must be informed of the death, following which, it will remit the amount to Retraite Québec, who will subsequently issue a new cheque made out to the order of the succession.
