Cancellation of a driver’s licence
A driver’s licence, probational licence or learner’s licence may be cancelled if the licence holder decides to stop driving. A refund may be obtained for any whole months remaining before the expiry date of the licence.
To cancel a driver’s licence, the licence holder should notify the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec:
- by phone (giving the information on the licence);
- by mail (with a letter or payment notice);
- in person at a SAAQ service outlet.
The Finding a SAAQ Service Outlet online service can be used to find a SAAQ service outlet.
Refund of a cancelled driver’s licence
A refund may be obtained for any whole months remaining before the expiry date of a driver’s licence or probational licence that is cancelled before expiry. No refund is made for a cancelled learner’s licence.
A refund for a cancelled licence can be requested in person at a SAAQ service outlet on presentation of the cancelled licence. If the licence fee was paid by pre-authorized bank instalments, the licence holder should ask the Société to end the instalments.
