If you move to a new address outside Québec either temporarily or permanently, you must notify the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec.
A person who leaves Québec temporarily or to take up residence elsewhere must so notify the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec.
Leaving Québec temporarily
Subject to certain conditions, a person who leaves Québec temporarily may continue to be covered by the Québec Health Insurance Plan and the Québec Public Prescription Drug Insurance Plan. For example, once every 7 years, a person may leave Québec for more than 183 days during the calendar year and still remain covered.
Leaving Québec permanently
Persons who take up residence outside Québec are no longer covered by the Québec Health Insurance Plan.
Persons who settle in another province or in a territory of Canada continue to be insured until the last day of the 2 nd month following their arrival in that province or territory. Persons who take up residence outside Canada lose their coverage as of the day of their departure.
Eligibility under the Québec Public Prescription Drug Insurance Plan ceases on the day of the person’s departure. A person who moves to Ontario, for example, can no longer purchase prescription drugs in Québec, not even during the first 3 months after leaving Québec.
The clientele and the conditions are indicated individually for each service, since they may differ in each case.
