If you have a competency certificate-occupation in a construction trade, you must notify the Commission de la construction du Québec of your change of address.
The competency certificate-occupation is issued to new workers who wish to practise a support activity on job sites, either as a labourer or general helper:
- blaster (shotfirer)
- chainperson (surveyor);
- steam boiler fireman;
- steam boiler fireman, class IV;
- clerk;
- truck driver;
- driller;
- watchperson;
- instrument man;
- heavy equipment serviceman (tire man, greaser-oiler);
- storeperson;
- labourer (day worker);
- lineperson (transport, distribution et telecommunications);
- block paver;
- hoisting equipment operator;
- generator operator;
- pump and compressor operator;
- stationary or portable mixing plant operator (concrete plant on job site);
- diver (underwater worker);
- tire and body repairperson for heavy machinery;
- welder;
- high-pressure welder;
- pipeline welder and distribution welder;
- underground worker.
Clientele
Any new worker, age 16 or older (with the exception of blasters and underwater workers, who must be at least 18 years old), who practise a support activity on job sites (labourer or general helper).
Conditions
To qualify for the competency certificate—occupation, the worker must
- have successfully completed the course «Cours de connaissance générale de l'industrie de la construction»;
- have successfully completed the course «Santé et sécurité générale sur les chantiers de construction».
Note
In case of a labour shortage, the Regulation respecting the issuance of competency certificates allows the worker to enter the workforce without having received the competency certificate—occupation provided that he or she has passed the course «Santé et sécurité générale sur les chantiers de construction». Specific conditions apply in this case, and the candidate must submit a request together with an employer registered with the Commission de la construction du Québec that guarantees him or her 150 hours of work over a maximum period of 3 months.
