If you have a competency certificate-apprentice in a construction trade, you must notify the Commission de la construction du Québec of your change of address.
A competency certificate-apprentice certifies the competency of a certificate holder who is serving an apprenticeship in one of the construction trades in order to be admitted to the qualification examination. An apprenticeship is required for each construction trade.
Note
A person may serve an apprenticeship in only one trade at a time.
Admission of graduates
Graduates who receive an employment guarantee from an employer (150 hours over a maximum period of 3 months) automatically receive their competency certificate-apprentice, provided they take the course «Santé et sécurité sur les chantiers de construction» and pay the $100 fee for processing their file.
Labour shortage among apprentices
In case of a labour shortage, non-graduates must, in addition to the requirement that they must be at least 16 years old, have an employment guarantee, have passed the course «Santé et sécurité sur les chantiers de construction», show that they have the academic and functional prerequisites of the mandatory training in the trade for which they have an employment guarantee, and pay the $100 fee for processing their file.
Clientele
Any person age 16 or older.
Conditions
To obtain a competency certificate-apprentice, a person must
- be one of the following 4 types of candidates:
- a candidate with a diploma of vocational studies granted by the ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport in one of the 26 construction trades or occupations covered by the application,
- a journeyman candidate, that is, the holder of a competency certificate-journeyman who wishes to serve an apprenticeship in another specialty or undertake an apprenticeship in another trade,
- an employer candidate, that is, the designated representative (refer to the definitions) of the company (in the case of an owner or co-owner, since the notion of designated representative refers to the contractor rather than the worker),
- a candidate without a diploma; such candidates are eligible only when there is a labour shortage;
- show that he or she has acquired the academic prerequisites to continue receiving training once the employment guarantee has been fulfilled.
Other conditions apply and they may vary for each type of candidate.
