The amount granted is in particular determined by the value of the residence on the day before the deposit of the assessment roll (see definitions) and the value of the residence on the day the role is deposited. This amount is calculated by the municipality.
Citizens entitled to the grant can receive it by direct deposit or by cheque or obtain a decrease in the outstanding balance indicated on their income tax return.
To apply for the grant for seniors to offset a municipal tax increase, applicants must
- complete the Grant for Seniors to Offset a Municipal Tax Increase form, taking care to include the amount of the potential grant sent by the municipality;
- carry forward the amount obtained on line 43 of the form to line 462 of the income tax return for the tax year in question;
- attach the form to the tax return; and
- send everything to Revenu Québec.
The municipality enters the amount of the potential grant on the municipal tax bill or on the form provided for this purpose.
