Postponing repayment of a student debt due to a temporary interruption of studies

Applying to Postpone the Repayment of Your Student Debt

Anyone who:

  • has to interrupt their studies temporarily for one of the following reasons:
    • being at least 20 weeks pregnant
    • birth or adoption of a child
    • disability preventing the pursuit of studies for at least 1 month due to the medical conditions
    • term as an executive officer in a recognized province-wide student association
    • deployment as a member of the Reserve Force
  • has a student debt under the Loans and Bursaries Program or the Loans Program for Part-time Studies

To qualify, you must have been enrolled for at least 1 month in the 6 months prior to the situation justifying your application for postponement.

To apply for a postponement of the repayment of your student debt:

  1. Fill out the form Temporary Interruption of Studies – Application to Postpone the Repayment of a Student Debt.
  2. Use the online service Online Access to Your File to upload the form to your online file, together with the required document corresponding to your situation. Or, send printed copies of the form and document to Aide financière aux études, at the Ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur.
