Registering for the Public Health Insurance Plan

Registering a Child Adopted in Québec or a Child Born or Adoted Outside Québec for the Health Insurance Plan

Children adopted in Québec or children born or adopted outside Québec.

For a child to be eligible for the public health insurance plan, the parent with whom he or she permanently lives with must be recognized as a: 

  • Person who has settled in Québec
  • Person temporarily staying in Québec

To register for the health insurance plan a child adopted in Québec or a child who was born or adopted outside Québec, a person must: 

  1. Call the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec to obtain a registration form 
  2. Complete the form and attach the required documents 
  3. Mail all items tothe Régie or go in person to ome of the RAMQ reception offices.
If the child is 14 years old or over, the child and a parent must go to:
  • A service point and provide a photo that meets the Régie’s standards
  •  A RAMQ reception office; a photo will be taken in the office (a fee will be charged).
