To apply for legal aid, make an appointment with the legal aid office closest to your home.

At your appointment, you must:
- provide the documents required
- sign the following:
- the legal aid application form
- the declaration that the information and documents provided are accurate
- the authorization allowing the director of the legal aid office to verify the accuracy of the information provided
Depending on a person’s financial situation, legal aid is free of charge or provided for a financial contribution, ranging from $100 to $800.
The following documents are required:
- the documents concerning the case (ex. formal notice, contract, summons or other document);
- applicant's or his or her spouse's proof of income (ex. income tax return or last resort assistance document);
- documents showing the applicant’s total property assets and liquid assets;
- documents showing expenses (ex.: support payments or care expenses).
